I've been face painting for about twenty years and I love it.

 

I enjoy painting at all types of venues including children's gatherings, corporate events, sorority/fraternity parties, theatrical performances, church celebrations, holiday balls and other fun festivities!

 

How I Became a Face Painter

 

Once upon a time, I worked at a Montessori Pre-School as an assistant teacher and administrator. Our art teacher always painted the kids at all the special events. When he left we had no one to do the job... so, having studied art in college myself, I figured I'd give it a try. I have to say it was harder than I thought it was going to be working on those tiny little faces instead of large walls. But, as with all things, practice makes perfect and I soon found that I enjoyed face painting over the custom mural work I was doing at the time. So I made the switch and have been painting on people ever since. :-)

Prior to face painting, I was doing custom murals and decorative painting in homes. I came into that profession as something of a lucky turn of events as well. While in college as a young adult, I was home one summer with my parents when a neighbor, upon seeing some of my artwork in the house, hired me on the spot to paint her newborn's nursery. I was surprised that she was so certain that I could paint something of such a magnitude when I had only painted on canvas up to that point. But she persisted and was generous enough to show me what it was like to start my own business and work with clientele. Painting in her home was the beginning. From there other neighbors hired me, then businesses and I continued working as a decorative painter throughout and beyond college.

 

After a while, I began dabbling a bit in graphic arts. I created a few designs for myself, some gifts for family and illustrated a few CD covers as well.  Today I pretty much only do graphics in my work as an administrator when I'm creating flyers, business cards, updating websites and such.

 

Face and body painting is my happy little side gig that I love getting to do.
